Bathtubs and Beaches.....

It seems with summer gearing up everyone is crazy busy! Just two cakes to update this time, but they were both fun to do.

The first one was for the 1st birthday party for the daughter of some great friends. Mallory loves her bathtub and the party was a "splish splash" theme. I made the cake to look just like Mallory's bathtub. The birthday girl thoroughly enjoyed her smash cake as well!

Here is a picture of the tub for comparison:

This cake was for a bridal shower. The wedding will be held on the beach and the cake was inspired by the invitation. The umbrella and flowers are gumpaste and the seashells are made of sugar.

They Say It's Your Birthday!

What a fun theme for a 1st birthday...The Beatles! My friend Amber's son Oliver turned 1 and she wanted a Beatles themed cake. She gave me some ideas and we came up with the cake below. The drum is made out of gumpaste and fondant. The letters on the cakes were cut with the Cricut.
One of the layers was strawberry for Strawberry Fields!

The cake below was for a 30th birthday party. The party had a baseball theme and the birthday boy is a Boston Red Sox fan. The baselines and pitcher's mound are brown sugar. The baseballs are molded white chocolate.

And of course, what kind of weekend would it be without a baby shower cake? =)
This cake was made to reflect the design and colors of the invitations. The monogram is the baby's initials.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

I am starting to think that the Houston Zoo does a lot of parties....

...because I sure seem to do a lot of zoo cakes! I made this cake for a 4th birthday party that was held at the zoo. The daughter of some friends of ours turned 4, so we enjoyed the party as well!

Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!

Well Lions and Dragons and Dora, anyway! This will be my only post for the rest of April. I have 2 great friends from Chicago coming to town next weekend and there will be no time for cakes.

This cake was for a 2nd birthday party that was held at the zoo. The party invitations were zebra print with a pink border, so I used that same patter/color for the cake.

Cake for a Dora the Explorer 2nd birthday party:

Sports themed cake for a 2nd birthday party. The balls, gloves, jerseys and hats are all molded chocolate.

Fun birthday cake. I love the colors of this one!

1st birthday cake for a knight themed party.

Have a great day and I will be back in May!!!

So many updates!

I admit it, I am terrible at updating this blog! Can I use the excuse that I have just been doing so many cakes that I just can't find the time? =)
Cupcakes arranged to look like the Very Hungry Caterpillar

We had some great friends in town for another friend's wedding. Their son turned 5 while they were staying with us, so I made a Batman cake for him. I used the Cricut to cut out the Batman logo. They are coming out with a Cricut Cake in about 6 weeks....I can't wait!

Josh's daughter Isabelle turned 8 last week. Her cake request was for zebra stripes and roses. I wasn't sure how that would look, but it turned out pretty well!

I made 2 cakes with a Mickey Mouse theme on consecutive weekends. Each is a little different. This one has a half ball that was made into the actual Mickey hat.

This cake was for a friend's baby shower. It was inspired by the baby's bedding.

This one is Mickey cake #2. The bow was made out of gumpaste.

Football theme for a 1st birthday cake.

Finally for this entry, the cake below was for a baby shower with a Candy Land theme. The suckers and teddy bear are made out of fondant, and the rest of the candy decorations are real candy.

Look for more updates in April!!

You may have noticed a theme....

...of baby showers and 1st birthdays! I seem to be at that point in life where the majority of my friends are having baby showers or their kids are turning 1 (we have started the 2nd birthdays too)! The cakes below certainly keep with this theme!

1st birthday cake made to match a Fun to be 1 hat:

Baby shower cake. The onesies, t-shirts and pants are all made out of fondant. I found the mini clothespins at Hobby Lobby.

It's been a little while!

It was only fitting that I made a cake with a fleur de lis theme for a friend's baby shower on the day before the Saints were in the Super Bowl. Both mom and dad have strong ties to New Orleans and were very happy on Sunday! The cake was inspired by the baby's bedding.

The cake below was for a baby shower. The invitations had a pink and brown theme, so that is what I used as inspiration for the cake.

This cake was for a 1st birthday party that was held at the Houston Zoo. This one was a lot of fun to make!

These cupcakes were for yet another baby shower (I actually attend many of the baby showers I make cakes for. They are now just known as "Champagne Saturdays"). The ladybugs and flowers are made out of fondant and the flower pot on the top tier is cake too!

Birthdays continued....weekend of January 9th.

The 2 birthday cakes for January 9th were both challenging, but in different ways! The train themed cake was for a 2nd birthday party. The trains are cookies decorated with royal icing and the design as a whole was based on the party invitation.

The cake below was ordered as a suprise by a husband for his wife. The cake was celebrating 2 birthdays-that explains the "Chapter 26" on the cover and "Chapter 27" on the spine. Cutting out the letters for "New Moon" and the "Chapters" was extremely difficult and time consuming. I piped the Happy Birthday message with buttercream.

This coming up weekend I am making cupcakes for a friend's baby shower. They will have a lady bug theme. Stay tuned and as always, thanks for looking!

So Many Birthdays! Weekend of January 2nd

January has been a pretty busy month so far with requests for birthday cakes. The rest of the month will be pretty busy as well, but it will be all of the baby showers that are gearing up!

The cake below is a 12" round (the first time I had used my 12" round pan) and was for a 40th birthday. The water is piping gel dyed blue, the boat is chocolate and the fisherman, catttails, duck, turtle, rocks, etc are fondant.

The cake below was for a 3rd birthday Sleeping Beauty party. I got to use my new airbrush for the first time to add a shimmer to the pink and blue layers (which you really can't see from the pictures).
